Becca & Sergio's Wedding

Becca and Sergio (high school sweethearts, awwwww) were married at Servants of Christ UMC, and held their reception at the beautifully historic Garten Verein pavilion in Galveston. There was lots of red and black, fun with mariachis, and sweet, sweet celebration. I can't hear the Black Eyed Peas' "I Got a Feelin'" without thinking about the limo ride to the church-- the entire wedding party was there, with Becca and Sergio sitting in the back, very "chill", just riding to their wedding. It was perfect : )

Becca's "something old" was a picture of her grandparents... I thought that was pretty cool.

Kathy & Clint's Engagement Pics

So when I met Kathy and Clint in Galveston for their session, my first thought was, "Aww, Kathy looks so pretty! and my second thought, as my eyes moved to Clint, was "HOLY COW! You look like Dave Matthews!"

Yeah, evidently he gets that a lot. They even have that same little eyebrow-raise expression... uncanny! At any rate, Kathy also brought along a helpful friend and the fabulous young lady who will be her flowergirl. The flowergirl was crazy hilarious and I can't wait to see her again at the wedding-- she's very entertaining!

We walked around The Strand Historic District for a while, then made our way over to Kempner Park. Garten Verein and its lovely grounds fared well through Hurricane Ike (no surprise, the octagonal pavilion also survived the storm of 1900 and the entire twentieth century), and though some of the vegetation wasn't quite back up on its feet, it still made for lovely portraits. The Strand had changed a little (my favorite bright blue bookstore wall is now a really neat blue and yellow tile mosaic... and still makes for a rockin' portrait background), but mostly seemed to be cleaned up with many of the businesses up and running.

Kathy and Clint met at Molly's, so we strayed a little from my usual path and took some pictures in front of the pub (see the embracing-in-doorway pic, last one of the bunch). I think it's so cute to have a little place like that, my husband and I met at a burrito joint, which just doesn't really carry the same romanticism/nostalgia as a cute little pub. So now, for your viewing pleasure... heeeeere are Kathy and Clint!

Chloe + Chris

You've seen them before in their engagement portrait blog... you've seen Chloe's gorgeous bridal portraits... are you ready for the wedding?!?!?!

Chloe hired me pretty far out from her wedding (over a year in advance) due to the fact that she was getting married on 8-8-08. I worked with Chloe, Chris, and Kelly Balfour (Eventology Weddings) on many occasions througout the planning of the wedding, and when the day came around for them to finally tie the knot... I was almost as excited as I was in anticipation of my own wedding!

The vision, creativity and hard work that went into the planning of this event is absolutely noteworthy-- there were so many small and beautiful touches, from the expertly designed peacock stationery to the incredible lighting display on the ceiling of the octagonal Garten Verein, where the reception was held. I spoke with Kelly (coordinator) on a regular basis about all of the fantastic ideas and vendors, all of the new and exciting things going on with her intricate involvement in the planning.

Peeking from beneath Chloe's exquisite Melissa Sweet gown were a pair of shoes from the sweetest of my dreams, turquoise and navy floral embroidered peep-toe Betsey Johnson pumps... complete with gorgeous rosy hot pink soles. Her hair and makeup were pinup-throwback, and she wore a bracelet with small charms bearing the faces of her father and sister (who have passed on but were surely with her in spirit on that day).

The ceremony took place at Ashton Villa, one of the Galveston Historical Society's lovely properties. There was a cocktail hour before hand (the ceremony began at 8:00 p.m.) and private trolley service to the reception on... what else? A streetcar that was literally named "Desire". My personal favorite part of the ceremony was the reading of a children's book, "Just Like Heaven". The bride and groom presented one another with coins and were bound by a traditional lasso, both of which were family heirlooms.

Post-ceremony, guests gathered outside at Ashton Villa's courtyard for Mariachi singers and the toasts to the bride and groom!

The reception at Garten Verein (an ocatgonal pavilion reminiscent of a gingerbread house in Galveston's Kempner Park) was just absolutely breathtaking. Upon entering the building, the first thing guests noticed was the incredible display of colorful, calming lights projected on to the ceiling! It felt a bit like being in an aquarium-dreamworld. The china, linens, and tablesettings were immaculate, down to the bamboo patterned flatware. The color scheme was carried through in the elegant florals and menu cards that adorned each table.

On Garten Verein's spacious porches guests found an outdoor Hookah Lounge! Beautiful glass hookah pipes were set up with a variety of flavored tobaccos. After a dinner of delicious Morrocan fare, what better than to step outside for a puff from the hookah? Everyone seemed to find it intriguing and fun.

There was dancing (to one of the couple's favorite DJ's) and merriment, and cutting of cakes (the groom's cake was his likeness, in a comfy chair, playing on his laptop with record scattered all around... all atop his favorite linguistics book). The couple made their exit to a vintage Rolls-Royce in a shower of green eco-fetti, confetti that is easily biodegraded and not harmful to the environment. Guests each received a pre-made box of childhood-favorite candies, delectable chocolate covered cake balls, and cookies on their way out.

Vendors: Galveston Historical Foundation (venues), Cakes by Gina, Island Flowers, Over the Top Linens, Bright Star Productions (lighting), The Perfect Face, and Eventology Weddings.

Chloe!

Heeeeere's Chloe! She was married in Galveston at Ashton Villa with a Garten Verein reception (pre-Ike, of course-- though we were happy to hear that the beautiful historic buildings weathered the storm with only cosmetic damage)... so for her bridal portraits we made our way down to the island. Kelly of Eventology Weddings joined us for the trip. Hats off to Danielle at The Perfect Face for the outta-this-world job on makeup and hair!

Some December Wedding Favorites

Here are a few of my favorite wedding images from last December... the ones that stick out in my mind the most. Erin and John were married in Galveston and had a reception at Garten Verein, where outside there were some streetlamps shining on an arbor of vines that were leafless for the winter. Who'd have thought dead vines could be so pretty?

Leslie and Miguel's wedding sticks out in my mind because they'd previously planned a destination wedding, but moved it up at the last minute simply because they didn't want to wait to get married. Their last dance before the exit was "All I Want for Christmas is You".

Ashley and Jason were just laid back, go-with-the-flow people. The picture of her cracking up during the cermeony is par for the course of their wedding day.

Elizabeth and Andrew were a couple of cute young Aggies, and I lucked out at their church with a great blacony from which to capture the Cinderella-dancing image.
