Headed to Chicago next week...

So, I'm headed to Chicago next week. If you're in the area, and would like to schedule a portrait session (gee, would that be a coincidence or what?) Shoot me an e-mail! Arriving Monday afternoon, leaving Friday night... but that's all very flexible.

Beach Blessing... Renewal of Vows

Heather & Dave reside just outside Chicago, and had a simple wedding ceremony there this past April. They took a delayed honeymoon to Galveston (before Ike, thankfully!) in July and had a lovely ceremony on the beach to bless their marriage. I was privileged to be their photographer of choice for the ceremony, which was presided over by John Bostock, the "Island Minister", whose soothing British accent and easygoing temprament fit perfectly with the calm surroundings. I cried a little... he had some very touching reflections on marriage and life, and related them to the sea.

We shot some fun, romantic couples portraits afterward-- so very smiley and kissy, these two, without my even having to ask. Heather and Dave each have a simple tattoo of their wedding date from this past April, and found out shortly before leaving for their trip that they're expecting a baby.

Congratulations, both of you-- and I hope that somehow, somewhere, our paths cross again.

Jeanette & Alec

Jeanette and Alec, who reside in Chicago, were married in a ceremony at The Houstonian, with their reception following in one of the hotel's gorgeous wood-paneled ballrooms.

Jeanette was stunning in her fitted gown with delicately crafted silk roses adorning the skirt, and the white butterfly orchids in her bridal bouquet (and on the lapel of her groom) were almost too beautiful to be real! The couple shared heartfelt vows that they had written themselves, covering everything from football to Jeopardy!, slurpees to fine dining, and friendship to love. I'm not gonna lie, they made me cry a little.

Guests were entertained at the reception by The Lost Boys, an 80's cover band... these people were on the dance floor the ENTIRE night! The wedding cake was a multi-tiered creation with elegant stems of calla lillies placed in the center.

All in all, a lovely affair. Readers of the blog may recall Jeanette and Alec from an earlier post this spring, when we shot their engagement portraits in Chicago.

Have camera... will travel!

Jeanette and Alec, who will be getting married in the very near future, live in Chicago, but will hold their wedding in Houston... and what do we do when we have busy clients who live out of town but still want portrait sessions? Why, we pack up our bags and travel to a location more convenient to them! In this case I lucked out in that it happened to be one of my favorite cities to visit, and one of the best times of the year to do so.

We met in Lincoln Park shortly before sunset, and I was thrilled to see Jeanette show up in this stunning plum-colored little number (have I mentioned that I love color?). I had the pleasure of meeting Alec and his charming mother (who came along to handle Jeanette's coat, since it was a little chilly with the sun going down). I knew I liked Alec's mother when I asked her what type of album she wanted after the wedding-- her answer? "I want something beautiful." No problemo!

We walked from one end of the park to the other, starting at the zoo and working our way down and back around to a lovely skyline-at-dusk-on-the-water shot to close it out. I can't WAIT to see them again on their wedding day!
